Planning a first trip abroad. Where can a Nigerian passport go without a full visa process?
All ECOWAS countries are visa-free for Nigerians with a passport or ECOWAS card: Ghana, Benin, Togo, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, with visa on arrival in Cabo Verde.
Beyond West Africa the visa-free and visa-on-arrival list in the 2025 passport indexes includes places such as Barbados, Dominica, Haiti, Fiji, Vanuatu, Micronesia, Cook Islands, Rwanda, Seychelles, Mauritius, Maldives, Comoros, Cambodia and Timor-Leste. Kenya now uses an online travel authorisation instead of a visa.
Rules change often and an airline can still refuse boarding, so confirm with the embassy of the country before booking. Turkey, for example, grants an e-visa to Nigerians only if they already hold a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa.
