This page says what 9jah stores about you, where it is kept, who else sees anything, and what you can ask us to do about it. It describes this site as it is actually built and run today, not a general template.
9jah is run by Ranked Technologies Limited, RC 9522220, of Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. The company is the data controller for everything on this site.
Ranked Technologies Limited is registered with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) under registration NDPC/DCP/14538.
We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer, so there is no name to give you. Every privacy question, request or complaint goes to support@ranked.ng and is handled by the company.
9jah runs on our own server, a Mac Studio in Istanbul, Türkiye. That machine holds the database, the uploaded images and everything else on this site. Cloudflare sits in front of it, terminates the HTTPS connection and carries traffic across its global network.
The company is Nigerian and the site is for Nigeria, but the storing and the processing happen in Türkiye. Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 this is a cross-border transfer of personal data, and this page is where you are told about it before you sign up.
There is no off-machine backup. The data sits on that one machine and we are the only people with access to it. Please do not put anything on 9jah that you could not afford to lose.
Everything a member posts is public and is meant to be found. Questions, answers, comments, votes and tags can be read by anyone with no account, and the site publishes a sitemap at /sitemap.xml so search engines index them. Your display name, username, avatar, and anything you type into the bio, website and location fields of your profile, are public in the same way.
Your email address and your password are not public.
Do not put anything in a question, an answer or a comment that you would not want a stranger, an employer or a search engine to read. That includes your phone number, your home address, your bank details, your NIN, and other people's private information.

The site never asks for your phone number, your date of birth, your address or any government ID. There is no age check at registration.
A visitor who is not signed in gets no cookie at all. We checked the responses the site sends; none of them set one.
When you sign in, the site sets one cookie, called visit. It is HttpOnly, it is marked Secure, and it lasts seven days. It is what keeps you signed in.
There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no tracking pixels on 9jah. No analytics or advertising product of any kind is installed.
The app also keeps a few items in your browser's own storage, including your sign-in token, the language file and small view preferences. Clearing site data in your browser removes them.
There is no mail relay configured for this site, so 9jah cannot send you email.
That has two effects worth knowing. Email confirmation is switched off, so an account works from the moment you register. And there is no password reset by email; if you lose your password, write to support@ranked.ng.
Your email address is stored and is used to identify your account. Nothing is sent to it from the site.
9jah carries no advertising. We do not sell personal data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
Ask 9jah is the assistant built into the site. It runs on ngpt-1, our own Nigerian model, served by Ollama on the same machine in Istanbul that runs the site. Your question goes from the site to that model on our own hardware. It is not sent to OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or any other model provider, and no key to any of them exists on this site. The software labels the connection with the word "openai" because that is the shape of the interface it speaks; the address behind that label is our own machine.
The assistant can be wrong. In Nigerian languages it has been seen to invent bus fares and company names. Treat it as a draft, check anything that matters, and do not take it as legal, medical or financial advice.
Your conversations with it are stored with your account, as set out above.
The web server in front of the app keeps no access log, and the app writes no request log of its own, so ordinary page views are not recorded on our side.
Traffic reaches us through Cloudflare, so the network address our own web server sees is not yours. Your address travels inside the request Cloudflare forwards. Cloudflare keeps its own record of it under its own terms. Nothing on our side writes it to a file, and the IP field on the account table is empty.
One thing is logged, and you should know it. When you send a question to Ask 9jah, the app writes that question into its own log on our server. Your email address and your password never appear in that log.
Your account and your posts stay until you ask us to remove them.
Two clean-up jobs are configured in the software and we can state them exactly: an uploaded file that ends up attached to nothing is removed after 48 hours, and a deleted file is purged after 30 days.
Beyond those two, no retention schedule has been set for this site. We are not going to invent one on this page.
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to object to what we do with it, to ask us to restrict it, and to get a copy in a portable form. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

One honest limit. 9jah is a public question and answer site, so other people may have replied to or quoted what you posted. We can close your account and remove your own posts. We cannot unwrite somebody else's answer about them, and we cannot reach copies that search engines or other readers have already taken.
Passwords are stored as bcrypt hashes. The site is served over HTTPS. The server is not shared with anyone outside the company.
We hold no security certification, we have had no external audit, and we carry no cyber insurance. If that matters for what you were about to post, do not post it.
If any of this changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves.
