Everyone talks about Canada. What is Express Entry and what does a Nigerian need?
Express Entry is Canada's online system for three permanent residence programmes: Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades. You create a profile, get a Comprehensive Ranking System score, and are invited to apply if your score meets the cut-off in a draw.
A Nigerian applicant needs an approved language test (IELTS General or CELPIP for English), an Educational Credential Assessment of their degree (WES is common), proof of settlement funds, and a clean police report. Since 2023 there are category draws with lower cut-offs for French speakers, healthcare, STEM and trades.
Provincial nominee programmes and study permits are the other main routes. Only immigration consultants licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants may charge you; check the licence, and read canada.ca directly.
