Sending 300 pounds a month to my mother. Which app gives the best naira rate?
Compare on the day, because the best rate changes weekly. Apps that pay out in naira to a bank account or wallet and usually beat the banks: LemFi, Sendwave, TapTap Send, Remitly, Wise, Nala and WorldRemit. Look at the effective rate (fee plus the exchange spread), not the headline fee.
Since 2024 the CBN lets licensed money transfer operators pay out in naira at market rates, so the old gap between the official and street rate has narrowed. Bank-to-bank SWIFT transfers are the slowest and dearest.
Keep each transfer under your UK bank's fraud checks by paying from a card or account in your own name, and use the same recipient details each month.
