Heard Lagos now has trains. Where do they run and can I use them to reach the Island?

Two lines run by LAMATA:

  • Blue Line, first phase, Marina to Mile 2 with five stations, opened in September 2023. It is the one that reaches the Island (Marina on Lagos Island). The Okokomaiko extension is under construction.
  • Red Line, Agbado to Oyingbo through Agege, Ikeja, Mushin and Yaba, opened in 2024 and shares the corridor with the Lagos to Ibadan rail.

Both take the Cowry card used on BRT; fares are set by distance and were in the hundreds of naira per trip in 2025. Services run mainly at peak hours with a published timetable, so check LAMATA's channels before you rely on a train for a fixed appointment.
