Need to go to Kaduna from Abuja next week. Is the train safe and how do I buy a ticket?

The Nigerian Railway Corporation runs the Abuja (Idu) to Kaduna (Rigasa) service several times a day. It was suspended after the March 2022 attack and restarted in December 2022 with ID checks and more security.

Booking is online through the NRC ticketing site and app; you need a valid ID (NIN slip, passport or driver's licence) that matches the ticket. Tickets sell out on Fridays and Sundays, so book two or three days ahead. Fares are a few thousand naira per seat, with economy and first class.

The trip is about two hours. Get to Idu station 45 minutes before departure because of the checks. Confirm times on nrc.gov.ng, since the timetable changes.

Checked by the 9jah team on 2 September 2026. Corrections welcome.
