Estimated billing is killing me. How do I get a prepaid meter from Ikeja Electric or EKEDC?

Apply through your DisCo's website or app under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) scheme. You pay, and the rule is installation within ten working days of payment. The DisCos also give free meters in batches under the National Mass Metering Programme, but the queue is long.

Prices rose several times; in 2024 and 2025 a single-phase meter was roughly 115,000 to 150,000 naira and a three-phase meter above 200,000. Some DisCos let you pay in instalments or take the cost back as energy credit over time.

Do not buy a meter from an unofficial installer; the DisCo will not activate it. Keep your MAP receipt and the installation certificate.
