My estate was moved to Band A and the bill doubled. What does Band A mean and can I complain?
NERC groups every feeder into service bands A to E by the hours of supply promised per day. Band A promises at least 20 hours. In April 2024 the Band A tariff was raised to about 225 naira per kWh and then trimmed to roughly 206 to 209 naira; the other bands stayed subsidised at far lower rates.
If your feeder was put on Band A but you do not get 20 hours a day, the rule is that the DisCo must downgrade it and refund the difference. Log the hours you actually get for two weeks, complain in writing to your DisCo's customer care, and if nothing happens escalate to NERC's consumer complaints unit or the NERC forum office in your state.
